Sean Payton breaks down what the Broncos like about Bo Nix

The Denver Broncos selected Bo Nix in the first round of the NFL Draft, and head coach Sean Payton has some big expectations from him. During the first round of the draft, Payton appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and explained what he and the Broncos like about the former Oregon Ducks quarterback.

“The most accurate passer in college football history,” Payton said while listing all the stats for Nix during the 2023 season. “He’s extremely smart and he handles the protections and he’s a tough sack.” Payton also added that Nix’s “arm’s strength is extremely impressive,” and “he throws it from a noisy pocket.”

Payton went on to mention the challenges Nix faced in his career. “I also like the fact he’s had some adversity,” he said. “He was at Auburn and he battled back.” Payton added that Nix is “so accurate with the football” and was impressed with what he saw from him during his Pro Day.

Bo Nix explains why he’s a good fit for the Broncos

Nix was selected No. 12 overall in the draft and was the sixth quarterback taken in the first round. The 24-year-old was named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year last season after throwing for 4,508 yards and 45 touchdowns while rushing for 228 yards and six touchdowns. Nix played two seasons at Oregon after spending three seasons at Auburn.

When Nix was drafted, he spoke to reporters about being a member of the Broncos. “It means a lot,” Nix said during his introductory press conference, per the Broncos’ official website. “I can’t thank them enough for taking me, and for putting their belief in me. There’s a lot in the future that’s going to need to be done — a lot of work to be done, a lot of growing and a lot of getting better. I just appreciate the value that they [saw] in me.”

Nix also explained why he thinks he’s a good fit for what the Broncos want to do on offense. “I think when you look at their offense, when you look at the scheme, [there are] a lot of really fun concepts that I’ve run in the past, a lot of fun things that I’ve been able to do and have success in,” Nix said. “We were able to just talk over those and communicate those. I believe just talking football is one of the best things you can do in the process, and that’s what we did a lot of.”
