Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic is in Geneva for the ATP 250 tournament, which has already started. As the 24-time Grand Slam champion has gotten a bye in the first round, he will directly play in the second round, and Djokovic used this free time to watch some football in the city.

The Serbian went to watch the final of the Swiss Super League between Young Boys and Servette FC. As the Young Boys lifted the title and partied everywhere, Djokovic watched the match from the stands and also visited the players from both teams.

During his visit to the Young Boys’ dressing room, the Serbian tennis legend interacted with Daian Males, and the Serbian-Swiss footballer called it the best 20 minutes of his life. Males and Filip Ugrinic, who is also from Serbia, also got together for a picture, which was shared by both of the Young Boys’ players on Instagram.

I met Novak Djokovic for the first time in my life. I was able to talk to him for 20 minutes. About Serbian football. About his situation and what happens next. One of the most beautiful 20 minutes of my life! He is one of my role models. I look up to him. Darian Males said about his interaction with Novak Djokovic. (H/T: The Blick)

Meanwhile, Servette FC gifted Djokovic a shirt with his name imprinted on the back. The club shared the picture on X and thanked the Serbian for visiting them.

Novak Djokovic looking to change his fortunes in Geneva

While Novak Djokovic made Darian Males’ day by meeting him, the Serbian will be hoping for a change in fortunes for himself in Geneva. Having struggled to win a title so far in the 2024 season, Djokovic is playing at the ATP 250 tournament for the first time to prepare for Roland Garros.

The Serbian will be hoping to spend some time in the middle and get acclimatized to the conditions on clay before he enters the big tournament. Djokovic has not been able to live up to his reputation this season, and his split with Goran Ivanisevic has only made things more complicated.

The 36-year-old was knocked out of the Rome Masters following a defeat to Alejandro Tabilo in the third round. His defeat to Luca Nardi at the Indian Wells has also been worrisome for the Serbian. It is to be seen if he manages to clinch the title in Geneva or if it will be another disappointment for Djokovic.
